If your entire friends list appears to be gone, don’t panic! This can be caused by temporary service issues, account mix-ups, or local connection problems. In some cases, the list returns on its own once services recover. If friends were actually removed (for example, due to account compromise), restoration may be limited and requires Support to investigate.
Symptoms
- Your friends tab is showing 0 friends in-app and/or on the website.
- You are still experiencing the issue after relaunching or logging into you account again.
Can my friends list be restored?
- If it’s a temporary outage or sync issue: Your list usually reappears automatically once services recover.
- If friends were intentionally removed (by you or anyone with access to your account): Restoration is generally not possible.
Troubleshooting steps
- Visit the official status page for any ongoing incidents related to friends/social services, server issues or active maintanance. If there’s an active incident, no action is needed beyond waiting for resolution.
- Confirm you are on the correct account. Sign out, then sign back in using the same method you normally use.
- The sign-in method may differ depending on your account type, such as a full VRChat account or a platform account (Steam, Meta, Pico, Google, or Viveport).
- Check that your Display Name and Username match what you expect.
- Log in to the official website and check the Friends sidebar. If it’s empty there too, it’s not just the app.
- If you may be affected by an outage or rate limiting, wait 30–60 minutes and try again.
