At this time, you'll need to use the VRChat website to create a Group. In the future, this functionality will be expanded to the application as well.
How do I create a Group?
- Navigate to the VRChat website and sign in
- Once you've signed into the VRChat website, press the Groups button on the left navigation sidebar
- On the top-right, click on the 'Create Group' button
- First, you will be asked to name your Group. This is the primary name your Group will use everywhere, including the Group Finder. Please note that this name is NOT unique.
-
You will then be asked to make a Short Code. This contains an identifier (which you choose) and a discriminator (which is randomly generated for you). Your Short Code will be used to uniquely locate your Group, even if others share a similar name. Your Group identifier must be 3-6 characters long.
- Next, you will be asked to write a description of your group. This will appear on your Group’s profile page. Try to describe what it is your community does in VRChat!
- You will then have to pick how people join your Group (Free Join, Request to Join, Invite-Only) - this setting can be changed later!
- Next, you’ll have to pick if you want your Group to be Public or Private. This setting cannot be changed, so choose carefully!
- You will then be asked to select a role template. Picking a setting here will generate a set of roles for your Group. As a note, you can customize and create these yourself later – this is just to save you some time!
- The next step will require you to select a banner for your Group! You can select one from your uploaded photos, or you can upload a new one.
- The next step will require you to select a Group Icon! You can select one from your uploaded icons, or you can upload a new one.
-
Finally, you’ll be shown a preview of how your Group will appear. If you like what you see, click the thumbs up and your Group will be created!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q) How make Groups can I make?
➜ A) You can create up to 5 Groups.
Q) Do I need a VRChat+ subscription to create a Group?
➜ A) Yes. Only accounts with an active VRChat+ subscription and a full VRChat account with a verified e-mail address are able to create a Group. This requirement could change in the future, but it is not required to join a Group.
Q) Will I lose my Group if my VRChat+ subscription expires?
➜ A) No. Your Group will not be removed if your subscription expires, but a VRChat+ subscription is required to create a group and is required for certain features (such as uploading new gallery image). Groups in a lapsed state can still be represented in-app, but will have limited administrative functionality.
Q) What's the difference between Free Join, Invite-Only, and Request-to-Join?
➜ A) Free Join allows users to freely join your Group without any invitation or approved request. Invite-Only requires a user to receive and accept an invitation to the Group. Request-to-Join allows users to request to join, which must be approved, but a manager can still send invites out to users.
